YouTube officially drops support for Apple TV third-generation

YouTube has dropped support for the third-generation Apple TV today (March 3) after originally informing users last month.

The change means that the YouTube app on the Apple TV 3rd-generation is no longer available to download and will stop functioning. Users will need to stream videos using AirPlay from the YouTube app on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or YouTube.com on a Mac.

It informed users via an in-app message in early February. CBS also confirmed plans to end support for the All Access app on the older Apple TV.

The YouTube app is still available on the Apple TV fourth-generation and Apple TV 4K, both of which can run the latest tvOS 14 software, released in late 2020.
