YouTube begins rolling out sharper new icons on desktop site after iOS release

YouTube is rolling out new icons on its mobile and desktop website, to fit in with the new Material Design icons that were released to the iOS and Android apps last year.

As spotted by Apple TLD, the more minimal icons are outlined and line-based, sharper than the previous icons that were looking quite dated. They’re arguably harder to see and look smaller as well, but apply to most of the YouTube site, including the hamburger menu, tools/profile menu and quick actions (like, dislike, share).

The new icons rolled out on iOS and Android in 2020 and were recently pushed to YouTube’s TV app, indicating that YouTube is planning to roll the sharper icons out on every platform. The update will be rolling out to more users in the coming weeks.
