Websites crash as Xbox Series X and Series S pre-orders go live

Throughout the day, Microsoft has been launching pre-orders for Xbox Series X and Series S around the world. The consoles have sold out in many places within minutes.

Huge demand in the UK, Australia, United States and other countries meant that retailers’ websites crashed and thousands of people were unable to place a pre-order for the new consoles.

In the UK, Game, Amazon and Smyths Toys websites went down, with Game citing “an exceptional response”. These retailers also offered the Series X and Series S at shops across the country.

Microsoft’s own Store site failed, too, with users unable to update payment details, add consoles to the basket and place an order. The company hasn’t yet commented on the problems and is now recommending people to look on third-party retailer websites for any available stock.
