Samsung has released a critical security update for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, released in 2016, that patches a flaw affecting devices released since 2014.
The issue could allow an attacker to gain access to a device without the end-user knowing. It arose after Samsung changed how Android would handle .qmg files, and has affected every recent Samsung smartphone, including the S20 lineup.
Rolling out now to the obsolete S7 and S7 Edge, SVE-2020-16747 patches this issue, Samsung has confirmed. Support for the devices has been dropped, but they’re the oldest to receive a fix – the S6 and S5 have not been updated.
