Report: Windows 10 to get major UI facelift in 2021

Microsoft is working on a major overhaul for many parts of Windows 10, a new report by Windows Central claims.

The changes, which could be released in the second half of 2021, will be major and include revamped key components of the operating system – including start menu, Action Center, File Explorer and Tablet Mode.

The significant UI refresh, code named ‘Sun Valley’, will modernise the current system app designs, some which date back to as early as Windows 95.

Windows 10 hasn’t received any major design updates since its launch in 2015. Although the introduction of Fluent Design heavily improved some elements, many still remain dated and clunky.

macOS Big Sur has an overhauled UI

The news comes as Apple is set to release its next update to macOS — version 11, Big Sur. This comes with a major facelift to every aspect of the software, including dock, Finder and other Apple applications. Big Sur was first announced in June 2020.
