Reddit: We’re “releasing fix” for iOS clipboard bug

Reddit will be fixing an issue with a part of code for the iOS app that copied information from users’ clipboards. People using the iOS 14 beta found that the Reddit app would copy the contents of the clipboard on every keystroke – using the feature that alerts you when any app does so.

The privacy-focused feature introduced in the software update, which is due to be released to everyone in September, has revealed numerous apps copying on every keystroke.

In a statement to The Verge, Reddit said that they “do not store or send the pasteboard contents” and “removed this code and are releasing the fix on July 14th”. The bug was based on a “codepath in the post composer that checks for URLs in the pasteboard and then suggests a post title” that’s based on the copied URL.

We’ll let you know when Reddit releases a fix. As for now, the web version of Reddit (reddit.com) obviously doesn’t apply the same practises as the app.
