Microsoft’s own apps will stop working with Internet Explorer 11 soon

Microsoft has announced that it will start phasing out support for its own 365 suite of apps in the Internet Explorer browser from later this year. The change means that apps like Microsoft Teams, Outlook and SharePoint will cease to function in the browser.

On November 30th 2020, Microsoft’s own communication tool Teams will no longer work properly in Internet Explorer 11 (IE) and will require a ‘modern browser’ – like Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Other tools will slowly degrade by August 17th 2021.

Customers that need to use IE to access older webpages can do so in the recently relaunched version of Microsoft Edge. Microsoft says its built-in ‘Internet Explorer mode‘ can replicate the old experience.

The company also confirmed that it would be dropping support for the original version of Microsoft Edge launched with Windows 10 in 2015. After March 9th 2021, the browser will no longer receive security fixes.
