LG Announces 2021 Soundbar Lineup With Support For Siri and AirPlay 2

After announcing its new high-end NanoCell and OLED TV models for 2021, LG has unveiled its latest lineup of soundbar models which are set to go on sale later this year.

The five models – SPD7Y, SPY7, SP8YA, SP9YA, and SP11RA – will all support DTS:X, for three-dimensional audio, and Dolby Atmos. The lineup also have HDMI eARC compatibility, which allows for uncompressed and higher-nitrate content through a single cable.

AirPlay 2, Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa are supported on the SP11RA, SP9YA, and SP8YA. With AirPlay 2, users can stream and control audio from their iPhone, iPad or Mac.

AI Sound Pro is a feature that will ship with the 2021 TVs from LG and the company confirmed that its 2021 soundbars will support it. The feature works by connecting the soundbar to the TV and providing sound through the ‘TV Sound Mode Share’ output, optimising the audio for the type of content that’s currently playing.

LG has also reduced the packaging that its 2021 soundbars will ship in, saying that it is taking “a more eco-friendly approach to product development”. It will use less plastic and EPS foam with a mix of recycled pulp to reduce the impact that its packaging has on the environment.

Pricing has not yet been revealed but LG promises it will roll out the new soundbars in key markets (Europe and North America) later this year.
