On Tuesday, Apple will unveil their latest iPhone lineup at its ‘Hi, Speed’ event. A recent report from The Telegraph claims that the four devices, all rumoured to support 5G, will have issues connecting to 5G networks in the UK.
The iPhone 12 will likely not support the 700MHz spectrum, which is used widely in the UK for 5G. The report says there could be ‘coverage issues’ due to the lack of support for this spectrum, which will be used to extend the coverage of 5G networks to remote areas.
Analyst Simon Rockman says that not including the 700MHz could be “missed opportunity”, as the rollout of 5G in the United Kingdom will likely be “quite quick”. Telecoms regulator Ofcom will auction off the 700MHz band to network operators next year.
