Apple has unveiled an all-new iPad Air with redesigned body, all-screen front and major new features. It comes alongside an updated budget iPad, with A12 Bionic chip, starting at $329.
iPad Air has a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina edge-to-edge display with thinner bezels. The display supports TrueTone, has an anti-reflective coating and P3 color gamut. The top bezel houses a 7MP FaceTime HD camera which allows for Smart HDR and is better in low light conditions.
Instead of Face ID, like the iPad Pro has, the Air contains a Touch ID sensor in the ‘Top Button’ for quick authentication. Apple says this is more efficient that before with a next-generation custom sensor.
It’s powered by the new 5-nanometer, six-core A14 chip which provides up to 40 per cent faster performance and 30 per cent faster graphics power. This will allow for more graphics-intensive tasks such as video and photo editing. The iPad Air is Apple’s first device with an A14 Bionic chip, ahead of iPhone 12 and 12 Pro coming later this year.
Five colours – Rose Gold, Green, Sky Blue, Space Grey and Silver – are available. The iPad Air starts at $599 and will be available in October.
