How to check if your Apple Watch is eligible for a free screen replacement

Apple has recently announced a new free screen replacement program for certain Apple Watch Series 2 and 3 models. The device must have specific screen damage to become eligible. This does not include cracks from drops.

Here is how Apple describes the program/defect:

Apple has determined that, under very rare circumstances, a crack may form along the rounded edge of the screen in aluminum models of an Apple Watch Series 2 or Series 3. The crack may begin on one side and then may continue around the screen as shown in the images [below].

How to check if you have an eligible device

  1. Make sure you have an Aluminum Series 2 or 3 model. You can check the back of the Watch or your Apple ID Devices if you are unsure.
  2. Compare your cracked screen with the image above
  3. Reach out to Apple Support or take your cracked watch to an Apple Store/Apple Authorized Service Provider to verify your device is eligible for the free screen replacement

If you choose mail in your Apple Watch, be sure to unpair it from your Apple ID and remove all Apple Watch bands.
