Apple has released a major update to Final Cut Pro X with social media editing tools, improved workflow and proxy features and much more. The update is available for free to users that own the application from the Mac App Store.
Final Cut Pro X has gained automated cropping tools for social media platforms like Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram. The ‘Transform Overscan’ feature displays parts of your media that are outside the crop zone when applying scale, position and rotation to a clip.
Libraries are now more portable and work better with high resolution files. Proxies can also be created in ProRes Proxy or H.264, with dimensions up to 12.5% of the original. Apple says these changes streamline remote working.
New workflow features include easy access to ProRes RAW settings from the Inspector and the ability to apply audio crossfades to adjacent clips quicker. Read more in Apple’s press release here.
The last update to Final Cut Pro X, version 10.4.8, was released over 6 months ago in December 2019. It was minor, with only bug fixes and performance improvements. Apple will likely release another update soon to fully support macOS Big Sur in the future.
