Apple announces Watch Series 5 with Always On Display, new finishes and more

Today, alongside new iPhones and a new iPad, Apple has announced the Series 5 Apple Watch, which comes with major display upgrades, new finishes and more. It will be available from September 20th at $399 and $499 respectively.

Apple touts an Always On Display as the major upgrade to this year’s Watch. This means that the Watch display will never turn off or require raising your wrist to activate the display, and it will instantly appear when you need it. Whilst you’re not looking at it, the content will appear on the screen at a lower brightness – with watchOS 6, Apple has optimised all applications for this feature.

Emergency calls can now be made internationally, all around the world, and it features a Compass with a stand alone app and built in functionality in the Maps app.

In addition to this, the new Watch will come in new ceramic white and natural brush titanium finishes.

Finally, in a surprise move, Apple will remove the Series 4 Apple Watch from the lineup and keep the Series 3 as a cheaper, budget model starting from $199 – an all time low for any Apple Watch model.
