Apple announces Apple TV 4K w/ redesigned Siri Remote, A12 Bionic

Apple has announced a new Apple TV 4K with new chip, redesigned Siri Remote and more major improvements. The new model will be available from $179 for 32GB storage from the second half of May. Pre-orders will open on Friday.

The A12 Bionic chip provides the Apple TV with more power for games and apps, while also enabling high frame rate HDR and Dolby Vision video. AirPlay has also been updated to support the high frame rate content shot on iPhone 12 Pro.

A new Colour Balance feature uses the light sensor on an iPhone to tune the colors on a television to “industry standard specifications”, with better contrast and more accurate colors. It does this without the need to calibrate the television screen directly.

The redesigned Siri Remote has an all-new clickpad, replacing the touch surface on the previous models, which supports five-click control and can be turned for jog control in video content. The one-piece aluminium design has similar buttons as the old model but relocates the Siri button to the side. It also has a button to turn off the TV and volume/mute controls.

Apple has also announced that tvOS 14.5 will arrive next week, with support for Siri expanded to Austria, Ireland and New Zealand.
