App Of The Week: Black Highlighter

App Of The Week is our new weekly feature where new and updated applications are covered. These articles are not sponsored by the developers although we may link to their app.

Black Highlighter isn’t a new app, it’s been around in the App Store for three years. Recent updates to the app make it a great tool for hiding sensitive information in images and screenshots.

Available for iPhone, iPad and Mac, its Magic Highlighter feature can automatically black out text at the swipe of a finger. We like how this is even and straight, without any jagged lines you’d get in a similar app or iOS’ Markup feature.

Users can change the colour of the redaction and manually scribble to block out information like email addresses or faces.

We’d like to see more redaction options available, such as the ability to apply blur or pixelate contents of photos.

Black Highlighter is free with in-app purchases for unlocking document scanning and automatically hiding words.
