Microsoft releases Windows 10 May 2020 Update with Cortana updates & more

Microsoft is rolling out the Windows 10 May 2020 Update with major new features, improvements and fixes. It comes after a final preview version was released to testers last month, and it’s now available for some users and likely more in the coming days. It’s the first major update of the year to the operating system, and comes weeks before the first macOS beta.

The update, also called Version 2004, brings major improvements to Microsoft’s virtual assistant, Cortana. Microsoft has revamped the interface for the assistant, making it more chat-focused and similar to Google Assistant. The chat window can be moved from the taskbar, unlike before.

Quick searches are also included in Windows 10’s search function, and Task Manager gains the ability to show you the GPU temperature and type of hard disk.

The May 2020 Update also includes the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2, which better integrates Linux into Windows and improves the performance of it. Further changes are coming in a future update, the company promises.

For a full list of changes, see this page from MSPoweruser. The update can be downloaded directly through Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool, or through Windows Update (Settings > Update & Security > Check for updates). Keep in mind that it’s a phased rollout, and some machines may be unable to download the update.
