Instagram for iOS has received some major changes in the latest update, which is available to download from the App Store now. It brings dark mode support, interface changes and some smaller adjustments to the app.
Firstly, long-awaited Dark Mode support is here. If your device is running iOS 13, and you have the darker-theme set system-wide, then you should notice the change as soon as you open the Instagram app. Everything from the feed to the messages list has been optimized for the dark grey and black focused mode. There is currently not an option to manually turn this on, although we believe that Instagram is working on an option to do so.
After announcing it at the Facebook conference earlier this year, the new Instagram camera interface is now rolling out for most users. It simplifies the experience and makes it more visually pleasing, with the ability to swipe to get to camera filters and colorful new icons.
Create mode also lets you add text, GIFs, timers, quizzes, and polls to a story. You can then edit this after to add more. You can also repost a story from your archive that is a year old – something that Instagram may have copied from Snapchat Memories. There’s also new rounder and bolder iconography in the story editor.
As announced earlier this week, the Following tab in the Activity section has now been removed, to address privacy concerns from many people. It’s not yet been replaced and now only reveals Activity on your profile (like your comments, likes, and replies).
