Apple releases iOS 13.5.1 and iOS 13.5.5 beta 1 with jailbreak patch

Apple has released iOS and iPadOS 13.5.1 to the public with important security fixes and a patch for the unc0ver jailbreak exploited in iOS 13.5 a few weeks ago. The first developer beta of iOS/iPadOS 13.5.5 has also been released, with the same change expected.

The release notes for iOS 13.5.1 state that ‘This update provides important security updates and is recommended for all users’ and no specific fixes. However, Apple’s now updated its support page and confirmed that the vulnerability exploited by the jailbreak has been fixed.

Kernel

Available for: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch 7th generation

CVE-2020-9859: unc0ver

It’s not known what’s changed in iOS 13.5.5 but the first beta likely has the same security content as the public release. You can update your iPhone or iPad to the beta if you run that on your device, otherwise, install iOS 13.5.1 by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
