Apple launches (PRODUCT)RED promotion, will donate up to $1 million

Apple has launched a new promotion to increase the awareness of its (PRODUCT)RED products. And, now through December 7, all purchases made with Apple Pay on apple.com, through the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store help fund (RED)’s fight against AIDS and COVID-19. Apple will donate $1 for every purchase, up to $1 million.

For 14 years, our partnership with (RED) has led to almost $250 million in donations to fund HIV/AIDS treatment programs. Now through June 30, Apple is working with (RED) to redirect 100 percent of eligible proceeds from (PRODUCT)RED purchases to the Global Fund’s COVID‑19 Response. This will provide critical support to health systems most threatened by the outbreak and, in turn, help preserve lifesaving HIV/AIDS programs in sub-Saharan Africa.

For months now, Apple has fully transitioned the (PRODUCT)RED funding to the Global Fund’s fight against COVID-19, whereas it would normally go to the fight against HIV/AIDS. A six-month disruption of antiretroviral therapy could lead to more than 500,000 additional deaths from AIDS-related illnesses in sub-Saharan Africa in 2020 and 2021. As a result of COVID‑19, over 100 Global Fund‑supported countries have reported widespread disruptions to HIV/AIDS programs and service delivery.

Originally scheduled to last until December 31st, 2020, the funding to the fight against COVID-19 has been extended to June 30th, 2021.
